AI Prompt to Plan an Event or Party
Most people ask AI to “Help me plan a birthday party”—and wonder why the output is mediocre. Here's how to write a prompt that actually gets you what you want on the first try.

“Help me plan a birthday party”
Too vague—AI has to guess what you want
“Help me plan a 6th birthday party for around 15 kids plus parents, on a Saturday afternoon in a small garden, with a £200 budget and a dinosaur theme. Output: a running order for a 2.5-hour party (with timings), 4 low-mess activity ideas suitable for that age, a simple food and drink list for kids and adults, a budget breakdown that stays under £200, and a countdown checklist for the week before and the day itself. Flag the two things most likely to go wrong and how to prepare for them (e.g. weather, a quiet child).”
Specific, clear, ready to use
What makes the strong prompt better?
Gives guest count, budget, setting, and theme so every suggestion fits the real event
Asks for a timed running order and a budget breakdown — the parts people forget until it's too late
Requests a risk flag and backup plan, which is exactly where generic event lists fall short
