What is AI data loss prevention (AI DLP)?

AI DLP (data loss prevention) is the practice of stopping confidential or regulated data from being sent into public AI models.

Traditional data loss prevention watches email and file transfers. AI DLP applies the same idea to AI use: detecting when someone is about to paste client identifiers, financial details or other sensitive data into a model, and flagging or blocking it before it leaves the organisation.

It's a core part of using AI safely in firms that handle confidential information, and works best alongside a sanctioned AI route that staff actually want to use.
