What is Prompt engineering?

Prompt engineering is the practice of writing and refining the instructions you give an AI model so it returns more accurate, useful and on-task answers.

Everything a model sees before it answers is the prompt — your question plus any role, examples and context around it. Prompt engineering is the craft of shaping that input deliberately: being specific about the goal, the format you want, and the constraints, instead of hoping a vague request lands. The same model can produce a throwaway answer or an excellent one depending almost entirely on how it's asked.

It ranges from a marketer tweaking the wording of a ChatGPT request to a team writing a multi-thousand-token system prompt for a production assistant. You don't need to be technical to do it well — you need a clear idea of what "good" looks like and a habit of revising the prompt when the output misses. That iteration is exactly what PromptOrange is built to speed up.
